Conrail's Santa Train

For the fourteenth straight year, Conrail employees at Browns Yard ran a Santa Train on December 9, 2000 on the Amboy Secondary and Freehold Secondary.  At Freehold, the event was also sponsored by the Freehold P.B.A., who also provided toys for the children.  This was the first year I was aware of and attended the event.  A great job done by the employees of Browns Yard and the Freehold P.B.A.  (If anyone has any additional photos of the train enroute and would like to share them, please feel free to contact me.)  Here are the photos!!

Here is a side shot of the locomotive, with garland wrapped around hand rails.
The other locomotive was CSX GP38-2 2627.  (So far, we have not seen a NS painted locomotive on either the Freehold or Southern Secondary.)
Like its PRR counterpart, CSX GP38-2 2627 was also decorated for Christmas.
People waiting to see Santa were able to see the locomotives up close.  (Photo courtesy of Mike Pepe)
There was quite a crowd that cold day to see Santa.  Children could get their photo taken in front of the Conrail locomotive on Santa's lap at no charge. (Photo courtesy of Mike Pepe)
After getting his photo taken with Santa (and staring at the locomotive), my son was eager to get a better look at the giant candy canes on the front of the engine.
Here is a good photo of both locomotives and the Freehold Station.  (Photo courtesy of Mike Pepe)
The train makes a great silhouette as it travels through Monmouth Battlefield State Park.  (Photo courtesy of Mike Pepe)
PRR 2944 also had a plaque which read "14", the number of years the Santa Train has ran.
