2001 Santa Trains
New Jersey Transit
On December 9, 2001, New Jersey Transit, in a trip sponsored by Red Bank, ran a Santa Train from Red Bank to Bay Head and back.  The train, running non-stop, was twelve cars long.  Here are three photos taken before boarding in Red Bank.

While the exterior was not decorated, the interior of the cars were decorated accordingly.  The train was just about sold out!

Conrail
On December 15, 2001, the employees of Browns Yard and the Freehold PBA sponsored a Santa Train into Freehold.  The train ran from Browns Yard to Freehold on the Freehold Secondary, making a stop in Jamesburg.  This was the fifteenth year the train ran.

There was quite a crowd for the two hours the train was there.  As with last year's train, a PRR and CSX unit were used.  The PRR 2928 is a GP38, while CSX 2736 is a GP38-2.  Children were able to have their photo taken in front of the locomotive while sitting on Santa's lap.
